MARGAO: It’s official. Youth Congress President Valanka Alemao will neither join Churchill’s Trinamool Congress nor campaign for the party candidates in Goa. She has opted to campaign for the party either in Delhi or Karnataka.
And, if Valanka is to be believed, her plea to work either in Delhi or Karnataka has been accepted by the Party leadership in Delhi and is awaiting further instructions to pack her bags and hit the campaign trail. “After I spoke to Digvijai Singh and other leaders in Delhi, my plea to campaign in some other State has been accepted”, she told Herald.
Breaking her silence on the emerging developments leading to Churchill’s exit from the Congress, Valanka said she is very much in the Congress, saying that she tried her level best to convince her father to reconsider his decision. “For me, it was a tough call after Churchill decided to move out of the Congress. My father is everything to me”, she said, adding Churchill’s decision also needs to be respected.
Replying to a question, she said instructions have gone to the youth Congress workers and NSUI members to start working for the success of the party candidates. “The Youth Congress has an organisation in place which will rally behind the two Congress candidates”, she added.
“I had chosen to remain silent all these days because of the fast paced developments. There were political developments on one side, while I was content with my father’s decision at a personal level. I had to take a tough call”, she added.
