Drivers arrested in separate cases

CANACONA, JAN 26 Canacona Police on Tuesday arrested an inter-state tanker driver on charges of seriously injuring a 45-year-old woman from Poinguinim.

Canacona Police on Tuesday arrested an inter-state tanker driver on charges of seriously injuring a 45-year-old woman from Poinguinim.
According to Canacona Police, Chandrakala Chandrakant Namshekar was seriously injured after she was knocked down by a tanker (HR-38 N-7797), which was driven by Venkatachalam Ramswamy R on January 21.
The injured is presently recuperating at Hospicio in Margao, where she was operated for leg injuries, informed police.
Police further informed that Chandrakala while walking along the roadside nearby to her house between Poinguinim and Maxem narrow highway section was hit by the tanker, which was proceeding from Karwar to Margao.
Police informed that the tanker was seized on the day of accident itself, but the driver after his arrest on Tuesday was produced before JMFC Canacona who released him on surety bond.
BICHOLIM CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Bicholim Police on Tuesday arrested a truck driver from Navelim in connection with the hit-and-run case at Amona-Bicholim.
According to Bicholim Police, Samuel Janna Bishra (30), originally from Jharkhand, was walking on the road on Monday at about 7.45 pm when he was hit by a speeding truck (GA-04-T-1701).
Truck driver Dyaneshwar C Gawas fled from the site along with the truck. Based on the information provided by an eye witness, the police arrested Gawas.
Bicholim PSI Ditendra Naik is investigating the case.
