Flying squad halts hill cutting at Balli

The flying squad on Friday stop a hill cutting at Balli village and had asked the Town and country planning department to initiate further action against the activity.
Deputy Collector, Margao Johnson Fernandes informed that the flying squad responded to a complaint stating that an illegal hill cutting was going on at Balli.
“Based on the complaint, the squad reached the site and found a shovel and couple of trucks working at the spot. Preliminary inquires have revealed that the activity was being carried out for some road construction”, he said.
He replied in the negative when asked whether the contractor has the permission to carry out hill cutting.
Fernandes said it now for the Town and Country Planning department to initiate action against the violators as per the provisions of the Town and Country Planning Act.
He said the squad would notify the police if any activity is noticed at the site.
Incidentally, the flying squad had issued as many as four stop work orders in the last few days, but reports state that the Town and country Planning department is yet to lodge FIRs against the violators.
In fact, delays by the TCP had prompted various NGOs to confront Senior Town Planner Puttaraju, who later assured the activists that directions has been issued to the Town Planner to start the process of lodging FIR in the 18 cases, where the flying squad had issued stop work orders.
