7 Mollem locals convicted

Sanguem Judicial Magistrate First Class Sanguem Sudhir S Shirgaonkar convicted seven persons from Mollem for forming unlawful assembly in front of the residence of one person and abusing him.
The JMFC convicted Ishwar Gaonkar, Vijay Gaonkar, Raghoba Gaonkar, Gajanan Gaonkar, Yashoda Gaonkar, Rohini Gaonkar and Gopika Gaonkar for offences punishable under Sections 143, 504, 506 (ii) read with 34 IPC.
It may be recalled that all the accused were charged by Collem police for forming unlawful assembly in front of the house of Krishna Gaonkar and for abusing him with filthy language. Besides, the accused were also charged for threatening Gaonkar with dire consequences.
The reason for the accused threatening Gaonkar with dire consequences was that the complainant had given a statement to Mollem Range Forest Officer in a deer hunting case. The accused had allegedly disclosed the involvement of one Rohidas Gaonkar and Digambar Konekar in the deer hunting case.
Irked with his statement to the RFO involving accused family members, accused abused the complainant and threatened him with dire consequences. The prosecution examined five witnesses in the matter, including investigating officer Jaidev Gauns. APP Govind Gaonkar represented the State. Though all the accused were convicted for the offences, they were later released on probation for good conduct.
