Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant inaugurated a cutting-edge STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Lab at the Government Higher Secondary School in Sankhali, calling it a crucial step toward fostering innovation and digital proficiency among Goa’s youth. The facility is part of a broader initiative under ONGC’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, implemented through the Goa CSR Authority, and is one of six such state-of-the-art labs being set up across the state.
Designed to encourage hands-on learning in science, robotics, and emerging technologies, the initiative aims to equip students with future-ready skills for a rapidly evolving world.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Sawant linked the STEM lab to the government’s long-term vision of “Viksit Bharat @2047” and the goals outlined in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. “Creating a future-ready Goa begins with empowering our students in schools through real opportunities like this,” he stated, stressing the importance of nurturing creativity, experimentation, and excellence in young minds.
Water Resources Minister Subhash Shirodkar, local leaders, and educators were also present at the inauguration. They hailed the lab as a major leap forward for science and technology education in North Goa.
According to organizers, the facility is built to offer experiential learning, develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and inspire curiosity among students. By bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application, it aims to spark interest in STEM careers and innovation-driven futures.
The launch of these STEM labs positions Goa at the forefront of modern educational practices, preparing the state’s youth to lead in cutting-edge fields and contribute meaningfully to India’s knowledge economy.
