1 dead, another injured in Verna collision

One person died while at least one other person was injured in a road mishap when a water tanker and two motorcycles collided with each other near Mahalsa temple at Verna late Wednesday evening.
Incidentally, another motorcycle was also found damaged and abandoned at the scene of the mishap, leaving police to speculate that there could have been more casualties in the mishap.
According to Verna police, the mishap took place at about 7.15 pm, while the deceased, Prasad Naik Dessai (36) of Balli-Quepem and Rupesh Dessai (33) of Cuncolim, were proceeding in a Bajaj Victor motorcycle (GA-02-Q-9996) towards Cuncolim.
A speeding water tanker was proceeding towards Verna IDC, when it collided with a Bajaj Victor motorcycle and a Hero Honda Passion motorcycle (GA-02-N-7246).
Prasad died on the way to the hospital, while Rupesh was admitted at the GMC hospital.
While Police was unable to ascertain the number of riders on the Hero Honda Passion motorcycle, it is believed that the rider or riders may have also been injured and immediately shifted to a hospital, without the knowledge of the police.
The tanker driver, Jairool Haq, has been arrested in this connection, as police investigations are in progress.
