PANJIM: Under pressure from the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) to expedite the work of the proposed Solid Waste Management facility at Bainguinim, the State government will next week float a tender for setting up the Rs 240 crore plant, considered to be a centralised facility for Goa.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Thursday chaired a review meeting, along with Waste Management Minister Michael Lobo, Panjim MLA Atanasio Monserrate, CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues, Mayor Uday Madkaikar, and others on the issue.
Emerging from the meeting, Lobo said the tender document is ready and the same would be floated next week. “It is an all-India tender,” he said, adding that the EC granted to the project has been currently challenged.
The Minister said that Goa Waste Management Corporation (GWMC), the nodal agency for implementing the project, has followed the legal procedure for setting up the facility.
Monserrate said that GWMC has assured the Chief Minister to float the tender by next week. “We are basically requesting to expedite the project. High Court is also on record that the facility has to be completed within 24 months,” he said.
