MARGAO: The aggrieved farmers from Loutolim, who have been vehemently protesting the proposed alignment for the new high-level Borim bridge and its approach roads, have lashed out at the Public Works Department (PWD) for ignoring their repeated pleas to remove the debris that continues to litter their khazan fields. This debris, remnants from the construction of the missing link road a few years ago, has become a contentious issue.
The farmers have provided evidence in the form of letters they had written to the PWD, urging the authorities to clear the debris, which has hindered their ability to properly carry out cultivation in those fields. While the affected khazan fields near the missing link road may not be the same as those that would be impacted by the proposed Borim Bridge project, the farmers question the PWD’s credibility and the assurances they may provide in the future about the khazan fields for the Borim bridge construction, given this unresolved issue from the past. They have escalated this matter to the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which is expected to take up their case next month.
