PONDA: Goa Dairy Chairman Rajesh Faldesai and Managing Director Navso Sawant took over the charge of the premier milk producer from Administrator, after the High Court of Bombay at Goa set aside the order disqualifying the seven members of the Board of Directors on April 11.
The High Court quashed the disqualification order on ground that the seven directors were not heard before they were disqualified thereby violating principle of natural justice. Further, the Court has directed the Registrar of Cooperative Societies to hear the directors within four months after complying with the principle of natural justice and issue a fresh order accordingly.
To recap, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies, in order dated August 31, 2018, had disqualified the seven directors of Goa Dairy citing mismanagement of the milk producer. This was preceded by an agitation over and complaint on scams in Goa Dairy by farmers supplying milk to the Dairy. Following this a Charted Accountant (CA) was appointed to investigate the complaint and he submitted a report stating that there was mismanagement in purchases.
On receiving the report from the CA, the Registrar disqualified the seven directors and appointed Damodar Morajkar as administrator to run the Goa Dairy and directed him to suspend MD Sawant, and to conduct inquiry against him.
Following this, the seven members had challenged the order of disqualifying them as Board of Directors of Goa Dairy. This order was quashed on April 11, paving the way for the Board of Directors and the MD to retake chare of Goa Dairy on Tuesday.
