MARGAO: Margao Municipal employees under the banner of Goa Municipal Employees Association have rejected a Margao Municipal proposal to pay the staff salaries through the bank.
A meeting of the Association was held at the Municipal garden on Wednesday noon to elicit the views of the staff and workers on the Municipal decision. Association leader Anil Shirodkar told the media after the meeting that the Municipal staff and workers are vehemently opposed to any move to pay their salaries through the bank. “The workers have been receiving their salaries through the cash counter in the municipality for years now. We fail to understand why the MMC chief officer now wants to change the system when the workers are accustomed to accepting salary payments through the cash counter,” he wondered.
Shirodkar further said the recent departmental transfers effected by the Chief Officer Naveen S L, IAS lacks transparency. “Though departmental transfers is the prerogative of the Chief Officer and the Chairperson, we have observed that the recent transfers were arbitrary and lacked transparency,” he added.
The Association also took up the issue of Grade Pay of the municipal employees, saying that the Association is planning to call for a general strike in Goa. “We will soon serve a notice on the government on the general strike on the issue of Grade pay”, Shirodkar added.
