PANJIM: In continued efforts to create awareness on traffic safety, Goa Police on Wednesday inaugurated a two-day Road Safety Summer Camp for students at Miramar. Besides inculcating good road safety habits, experts have been invited to trains students, aged between 11 and 17 years, in self-defence, first aid and yoga.
As many as 120 students participated on day 1, which saw Director General of Police Dr Muktesh Chander, Inspector General of Police Jaspal Singh, SP (Traffic) Dinraj Govekar, DySP Traffic Dhamesh Angle and others delivering lectures. Experts from different fields have also been invited to be a part of the session.
The Traffic Cell last year had decided to organise a Road Safety Summer Camp in May 2018 as an educative initiative to train young minds in road safety. The Traffic Department in its previous awareness campaign on road safety had appealed to educational institutions to appoint at least one teacher as Road Safety Coordinator, who would be trained by the department officials.
A detailed analysis of traffic violation in the State indicates that talking on the phone while riding/driving, overtaking dangerously, not wearing helmets, reckless driving and drunken driving top the chart.
The two day program will also hold discussion on the ill effects of drugs.
