MARGAO: Water Resources Department (WRD) Minister Subhas Shirodkar has issued a warning to the public against releasing wastewater into the open because it will seep below the surface and contaminate groundwater. He emphasised that such activities are a big cause of the contamination of water in Goa.
In addition, he recommended that residents get their sewage connections done soon and expressed confidence that the Sewerage Corporation would be able to complete this task quickly.

The Minister stated that the government has allocated funds for more than 1,000 wells in an effort to support farmers and increase agricultural production.
He was speaking at a function in Fatorda, where for the benefit of Agalli-Fatorda farmers, the WRD has begun the construction of six shallow wells at a cost of Rs four lakh apiece, each outfitted with submersible solar water pumps. He added that the wells in Fatorda would be completed in the next two months and pointed out that they require less upkeep and that if there is a demand, more wells can be provided for also.
The WRD Minister stated that the primary objective of the WRD is to give water to the fields for irrigation, and that there will be no concessions made in terms of the farmers’ access to water.
