RTO clerk suspended for misappropriation

The clerk would delete the transaction records from the computer after issuing the receipts to the applicants

VASCO: A billing clerk of the Regional Transport Office (RTO) Ganesh Faterpekar, was suspended by Director of Transport Arun Dessai for allegedly misappropriating funds of Rs 5 lakh.
According to Vasco Assistant Director of Transport Abhay Naik, the incident came to light after an officer suspected some errors in a challan issued to an applicant. Officials went through the records and found that the challan was missing from.
“As the matter was serious, we decided to go through all the earlier records and found that similar misappropriation of funds was committed by the cashier. Prima facie, we suspect that the cashier committed fraud from January 2011 to April 2015 by deleting the transaction records from the computer after issuing the receipts to the applicants. Therefore, the final figure of misappropriation can be ascertained once the audit of accounts, which is going on, is completed,” said Naik
The matter was reported to the Director of Transport, who then issued an order of suspension against the clerk Ganesh Faterpekar. Naik will register a complaint with the Vasco police on Thursday.
