PANJIM: A couple of days after BJP won the by-elections in Karnataka, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said he has again written to the Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change reminding him of the assurance to sort out the issue in 15 days.
“I spoke to Minister of Environment and Forest Prakash Javdekar on Tuesday. He was in Spain and arrived yesterday and assured to take a review from his office on the issue and revert,” Sawant said.
Sawant said that he has been assured a positive solution on the State’s request to withdraw the letter to Karnataka.
On the opposition’s mounting pressure, the CM assured that he is seized of the matter and more concerned than anybody else. The Congress will hold a dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on December 14, while Goa Forward Party has been critical of the government over the issue.
Sawant also said he expects mining operations to resume by January. Speaking at the post-Cabinet meeting press conference, he said the government has approached the Supreme Court to grant permission for handling mining dumps in the State. “There are about three petitions and we expect some decision to come,” Sawant said.
