PANJIM: The Self Help Groups Federation which had promised that it would meet to discuss common grievances in the light of the recent incidents of food poisoning has postponed its meeting on account of the heavy weather.
The representatives of the 82 SHGs who supply food to school children as part of the mid-day meal scheme have complained that the price offered by the government for each plate served to a student was inadequate.
Their meeting was to decide on future course of action. The SHGs had threatened to stop serving school children mid-day meals unless the government increased the prevailing price. Speaking to Herald Prakash Shirodkar of the Association said that the meeting will be held at a later date.
Following the contamination of the mid-day meals at Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Canacona, last week, it is learnt that the mid-day meal suppliers are upset that they were being targeted for every misdemeanour over the mid-day meals in the schools.
