PANJIM: The names of captain Sunil Chhetri, goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu and Sandesh Jhingan which were omitted in the first official list of sportspersons (football) for the Asian Games in China’s Hangzhou have been added so that they also get accreditation, stated AIFF president Kalyan Chaubey.
“I took up the matter personally to ensure their names were added and more so that Chhetri would be the captain of the men’s squad. Their names were not sent to the organisers by the July 15 deadline. Having realised the lapse, I took up the matter personally so that they get the accreditation,” remarked Kalyan.
Kalyan has personally requested the Asian Games organisers to provide accreditation as a special case as the squad can register three players above the age of 23 years. In men’s football, the country has to field its under-23 players, but three players in the team can be above 23 years. There is no restriction for women.
