According to the police, Smith Mathew walked into the showroom located on 18 June Road, on March 21 and 22 and purchased a variety of jewellery items worth Rs 17 lakh. He allegedly impersonated as someone close to a senior Congress leader and made payment through two cheques.
“The cheques bounced after which the company made futile attempts to contact the accused. We traced the conman with the help of CCTV camera footage in the store and other details during the course of the inquiry, and arrested him,” a police officer
