CUNCOLIM: Agitated members of the Seafarers’ Association of India protested in front of NUSI Wockhardt Hospital against its abrupt closure, which was providing treatment to them.
President of Seafarers Association, Dixon Vaz and other members along with seafarers had a two-hour peaceful demonstration in front of the hospital protesting its closure.
Association President Vaz told media that it was the failure on the part of NUSI Union which has resulted in the shut down of hospital without informing the stakeholders.
“How can Union close down Hospital we have right to know what NUSI is doing. We want to know whether it is shut down permanently or they are going to re-start it,” asked Dixon. Association served an eight-day ultimatum to NUSI management to restart the hospital or else has warned of forced closure of NUSI Maritime Academy.
“We had written letters to NUSI General Secretary Abdul Ghani and other office-bearers but they have not shown any courtesy even to reply to our queries. We have no options left now to show our strength and to force management to restart Hospital,” Dixon said.
Meanwhile, NUSI Academy refused to intervene in Hospital matter since they are not authorised to take any decision pertaining to the hospital. The Academy made it clear that the Hospital and the Academy are separate entities and the Academy cannot be dragged into this controversy.
