BICHOLIM: The Goa convention of workers has decided to hold a rally in Panjim on January 8, to highlight the several issues neglected by the government and also demanded to form a mining corporation in the State soon.
The rally will begin at 10 am from the KTC bus stand.
Goa convention convenor Suhash Naik informed that there are many issues in the country but no one is bothered about them.
“There is too much unemployment, rise in petrol prices, poor economy and so we are coming on the road to make government aware of these several issues,” Naik said.
He said that there will be several organisations which will come on the road and it will be a massive rally.
Union leader Ajitsingh Rane asked if the Central government is that of Capitalist or of common people. “GDP is going down, currency is also going down and government is claiming there is development,” Rane said.
He said that mining is not starting because of the faulty planning of the government.
“We had given mining plan and it is surprising that they are not able to form Mining Corporation, it will only take a month,” Rane informed.
All Goa Bus owners Association President Sudip Tamankar said that government has increased premium of the vehicle. “Our business is in danger because of the fault of the government,” Tamankar mentioned.
“The convention has put forward four demands including formation of State owned mining corporation in the name of Goa Mineral development Corporation Limited (GMDCL). All mining workers who have lost jobs due to closure should be re-employed. All transport vehicles must be pooled in under the corporation. The corporation must be managed by a board of directors,” he said.
The Goa convention of workers is a joint platform of trade unions and mass organisation.
