PANJIM: Two local residents, have been arrested for allegedly smuggling drugs worth Rs 66.60 lakh into Goa by hiding them in their under garments.
This is yet another new modus operandi of drugs traffickers which the ANC has detected, nearly a month after uncovering that smugglers also transport drugs by hiding them in walnuts.
Late Monday evening, Bhawarlal Meghwal (22), originally from Rajasthan and living in Harwale, Sanquelim and Jigar Patel (23) of Gujarat and temporarily residing in Bicholim who were travelling in a Figo car GA-04-C-4787 were stopped for checks by anti narcotics sleuths. The car was searched but nothing could be found. “The team then searched the two boys and found that drugs, wrapped in small packets were hidden in their undergarments. The contraband was confiscated and they were arrested,” said ANC officer.
On checking, the team found the packets contained Heroin, which weighed 666 gms valued at approximately Rs 66.60 lakh. The alleged traffickers were also found in possession of Rs 3,200 cash.
The catch is considered as the biggest Heroin seizure, followed by 460 gms seized a couple of years back, worth Rs 40 lakh.
