PONDA: Veling Priol Cuncoliem Panchayat has threatened to impose fines based on CCTV footage for dumping garbage in Old Tito Market.
Sarpanch Laxmikant Khedekar on Tuesday said that some people residing in the panchayat area had converted the Old Tito Market at Mardol Bazaar into garbage dump yard by throwing their plastic and other waste giving an ugly look to the area.
He said that the Old Tito Market is abandoned after it was shifted to a new place 10 years ago. He regretted that despite collecting door-to-door garbage regularly from the locals, some people are ignoring the panchayat’s request and dumping garbage in public places such as Tito Bazaar.
He warned that such people would be henceforth punished with heavy fines.
He said that to control the menace, the panchayat has installed 12 CCTV cameras at the Old Tito Market.
Khedekar said that the panchayat is collecting the plastic garbage twice a week by engaging two rickshaws, but some people are not cooperating with the panchayat and throw their garbage at public places instead of handing over their garbage to the labourers engaged for collecting garbage.  He appealed to the people to behave properly and maintain their village clean.
The sarpanch informed that the panchayat has planned to install garbage disposal plant by segregating wet and dry garbage and till then the people should help panchayat by handing over their garbage to the panchayat.
