PANJIM: Siolim MLA Vinod Paliencar has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi informing him about the drug menace in Goa’s coastal belt with evidence to support his claim.
Addressing a press conference in the capital on Tuesday, the former minister has also urged Goa Police to extensively crackdown on the illegal trade.
“I have written to the Prime Minister with details of drug trade and proof. In the current scenario, there are rave parties being hosted particularly in Anjuna. The police should check on rampant drugs menace,” he said. The minister also clarified that his opposition is to drug menace and not music. A statement that comes after former Siolim MLA Dayanand Mandrekar met Chief Minister Pramod Sawant seeking relaxation to music norms.
Paliencar had stated that through permission to play music along the coastal belt, the drug traders are resorting to rave parties and drug trade. To this, Mandrekar had categorically stated that stopping music won’t act as a deterrent but would affect tourism and instead police should act against drug trafficking.
Paliencar, without naming his political rival, hit out at Mandrekar claiming “Nobody should teach me what music is. I have the knowledge.” In the same breath, he urged government to give relaxation to sound norms in the State.
