MARGAO: After a near three-week gap due to the lockdown, the government offices finally opened on Monday with most witnessing skeletal staff who did not entertain public as the employees were asked to clear only the pending files.
At the Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex and Electricity Department Office at Aquem, the gates remained closed. The guards sent people back saying that public is not allowed.
However, at the Agriculture Office at Calcondem, public had free access to the officials despite skeletal staff.
With no public transport, government offices witnessed less staff that made special arrangements to report for work. At the BDO’s office, 13 of the 17 staff members reported on duty.
However, it is learnt that the KTC workshop was functioning but the mechanics and other staff did not maintain social distancing.
The Margao Municipal Council remained closed as the entire building and its surrounding areas were sanitised. Sanitisation was carried out in the town and Khareband too.
