PANJIM: CCP has launched a social media campaign to invite suggestions and proposals from Panjimites and those visiting the city, for inclusion in its SCP for Panjim.
The SCP will be based on strategic components like retrofitting, redevelopment, greenfield and pan-city initiative.
A dedicated Facebook page (Imagine Panaji: Build Your Smart City), Twitter handle (@smartcitypanaji) and gmail account ([email protected]) have been launched inviting suggestions from people on city planning, waste management, sanitation, transport, facilities for pedestrians, social infrastructure, safety and security. Online polling system, zonal level meeting, workshops, essay competitions in school and local consultations are some of the other means through which CCP has decided to seek suggestions and public views.
The concept is being launched in association with GSIDC, which has been appointed as the nodal agency for assisting the consultant for preparing the SCP. A special Smart City Cell is also being constituted by GSIDC, which will collect and study the suggestions.
Speaking to media persons, GSIDC MD and CCP Commissioner Sanjit Rodrigues said that over the next few days the corporation will be engaging with citizens across various platforms to gather feedback and suggestions toward the smart development of the city. “The feedback collected will help CCP build a strong proposal to have a best shot at the being the first 20 smart cities to be developed,” he said, in the presence of city Mayor Shubham Chodankar and Panjim MLA Siddharth Kunkolienkar.
The city has also been segmented into eight zones – Mala, Ribandar, Caranzalem, Tonca, Bhatlem, Miramar and Campal, Altinho and Boca de Vaca, and St Inez – led by ward corporators who will organize community discussions and set up information kisoks in their wards to collect feedback and comments. “Each zone includes a cluster of wards. The wards will compete with each other to gather the most number of smart ideas for the city,” Rodrigues said.
The top three wards with the most number of suggestions and ideas will be awarded Rs 5 lakh worth of infrastructure development for the benefit of the ward.
