Goa Dairy after SUMUL was granted entry into the Goa market provided Goa Dairy offers the same rates to farmers and milk societies offered by the rival dairy.
Desai, on Wednesday, said that the BoD has decided to consider the demands of various milk supplying societies and its members and offer rates in par with those which will be offered by SUMUL in Goa.
Addressing the media after BoD’s special meeting with managers of around 132 Milk Supplying Societies attached to Goa Dairy, Desai said this special meeting was called by BoD to inform the Societies’ chiefs the new challenge posed to Goa Dairy with the entry of SUMUL. Of the total 176 societies registered with Goa Dairy, representatives of 132 societies attended the meeting.
The meeting asked the representatives to support Goa Dairy and draw up a strategy to oppose SUMUL’s entry into the Goa market.
He said that Goa Dairy is also thinking of taking legal advice to prevent entry of SUMUL in state.
He said Goa Dairy will offer farmers better schemes and will also request women’s participation in the milk-producing activities. Desai said the veterinary services, fodder for schemes offered at present are better than any other dairy.
Goa Dairy MD Navso Sawanth, echoing Desai’s statements, said it is sad the government offered major milk producing talukas to SUMUL without taking into confidence Goa Dairy and its societies. “This move is surely going to affect Goa Dairy, but we have assured the societies and the farmers to offer better rates in the future,” Sawanth said.
He said Goa Dairy must be commended because its products including ice-creams are in great demand among Goans.
