PONDA: Feeling angry at being allegedly exploited by the government and the managements of private school, the Balrath employees have decided to launch a State wide agitation for justice.
Addressing a press conference at Ponda, the leader of Swati Kerkar Balrath employees claimed that the workers are being paid poor salaries since many years. Calling this as injustice, she informed that the workers would take to the streets along with families and children to highlight their plight.
Kerkar was addressing the media after the annually general body meeting of All Goa United Balarath Employees Union which has 844 drivers and attendants as it members.
Kerkar alleged that by not absorbing the employees into the regular workforce, the government treating as bonded labourers. She also claimed that the workers have been pushed to taking this decision since the government has ignored their pleas and many memorandums demanding higher salaries and regularisation of their services.
Moreover, the employees said, they are being paid salary only for ten months.
Earlier, the general body meeting passed a resolution condemning the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar for making a statement in the Assembly that they work only for 4 hours a day. “Their actual work began at 6.30 am and ends at only at 3.30 pm — a total of 9 hours,” Kerkar said.
