Basavraj Harijan told Herald that he had been staying in one hut for the last couple of years by paying rent of Rs 1,500 and the hut had been sublet by another migrant.
“Most migrants are staying in rented huts by paying rent ranging from Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,000. The migrants themselves have rented out huts to other migrants. One bar owner has 20 huts and had rented out the huts for Rs 2,000,” disclosed Harijan.
Other migrants said that they were unaware that the huts were within the high tide zone and CRZ.
