VASCO: Following complaints made by citizens about caste certificate and other services not being issued on time, the Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte on Thursday made a surprise visit to the office of Mormugao Mamlatdar as well as Deputy Collector and SDM Mormugao to understand the situation on the ground.
During the surprise visit, Khaunte checked records register of the office, inquired about the pending applications, time taken to issue residential certificates, functioning of online portal (e-services) etc. Speaking to reporters, Khaunte said he found the office of Mormugao Mamlatdar as well as SDM congested and the records not not kept properly due to the absence of a records room.
“There were issues and complaints about caste certificate not being issued on time, similarly I wanted to check whether the process is in tune with the requirements and whether the concerned Mamlatdars have been taking responsibility or not. So today I visited these offices to review the situation and to take stock and to ascertain if there was a need for additional staff” Khaunte said.
He further added “During my visit I found that a few improvements needed to be made at the office of the Mormugao Mamlatdar.”
At the Mamlatdar office records are not kept properly. I have directed the officers to create proper record rooms in the Mamlatdar and the Deputy Collectors office and to deploy additional staff for it. I have also instructed that a new citizens assistance counter/kiosk be set up so that citizens who are not having any knowledge about online services and want any assistance can be helped. Similarly revenue department have launched online services by which citizens need not have to come to the Mamlatdar office and they can get their certificates at home. However citizens are not using online facility so we have decided to kick start a special awareness program among the citizens about the online services and then issues like delays will not take place. Even the agents menace will be curbed”
