MARGAO: Alleging police-builder nexus behind registering cases over Friday’s incident at Costa ground, agitated residents of Aquem under the banner of Aquem Ground Bachao Association have decided to march to the Margao police station on Tuesday to demand withdrawal of what they called as “false” cases.
The Association has demanded the arrest of the builder and the suspension of Margao Police station in-charge, PI Sudesh Naik for allegedly being hand in gloves with the builder.
Addressing the media, Adv Jawahar Dias reiterated that the builder commenced work on erection of the iron platform over the nullah despite knowing that an appeal is pending with the Director of Municipal Administration against the Margao Municipal Council resolution granting license renewal for the construction project. “The builder suppressed the facts before the police and the police acted promptly based on a false complaint. We demanded the transfer of PI Sudesh Naik,” he demanded.
Margao Municipal Councillor Damu Shriodkar demanded to know how four jeep load of policemen descended at Costa ground on Friday even when the builder had not asked for police protection. “When we met PI Sudesh after the incident and narrated the sequence of events, the police did not register our complaint, but was quick in registering cases against 25 innocent persons,” he said, while alleging that the builder obtained no permission before erecting the iron platform.
Chairman of the Association Naveen Raikar accused the Margao police for acting on a false complaint, while demanding immediate withdrawal of the cases. “We have not trespassed as alleged by the builder. The ground has been in possession of Aquemkars for over 100 years now. The police, who are well aware of this fact, have deliberately registered a case of trespass against the residents,” he said, while condemning the police action of registering false cases against the residents.
