VERNA/MAPUSA: Kenneth da Costa and Senio Fernandes shared the day’s honours, netting four goals each in the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports Football tournament, on Saturday.
Kenneth’s strikes helped St Thomas High School trounce Crescent School 7-1 while Senio’s sterling display powered Regina Mundi High School’s massive 14-0 victory against Our Lady of Divar High School in the junior boys’ qualifying games played at Father Agnel ground, Verna.
The goal-scoring duo had a frutiful day as they received the player of the match awards as well. Senio’s teammate Jonas D’Souza also took part in the goal-fest by scoring three goals.
Sachin Rathod was the other hat-trick hero of the day as he powered Savour of the World High School to a 7-0 win over Aim English Medium School, at Ganeshpuri Sports Complex. MAE de Deus High School too had it easy upstaging Sacred Heart of Jesus 5-0. Player of the match Yash Parwar and Ravi Rai scored two goals each for the winners.
On a day when 32 goals rained in five games, the senior boys’ qualifying match between Dr TB Cunha Government Higher Secondary School and Kendriya Vidyalaya, Bambolim stood out as it ended 1-1 at regulation time. Kendriya Vidyalaya scraped through by winning the penalty shootout 4-3.
