BENAULIM: United Club Fatorda Veterans pipped Bardez Veterans 1-0 to storm into the final of the 17th VM Salgaocar Memorial Veterans Soccer tournament, organised by Prime Sports Club and played at St John The Baptist ground, Dando, Benaulim, on Saturday.
Fatorda started strongly and immediately pushed Bardez Veterans on the back foot. The sustained pressure brought an early goal of Fatorda in the 8th minute. Playmaker Remmy Baretto’s flagkick was pushed away rather weakly by rival goalkeeper Jude Fernandes which went to the lurking Fatorda striker Mithun Carvalho who wasted not time in heading into the nylon to shock the Bardez supporters.Bardez were not in their elements and their only efforts in the first session was a tame short by Shailendra Misquin which went into the safe hands of Fatorda keeper Hanumant Pednekar.
