MARGAO: Carmona Sports Club rallied to hold Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 1-1 in a Salcete Zone GFA Second Division encounter at Curtorim ground, Friday. All goals came in the opening session.
Areal who enjoyed brief spells of possession were rewarded in the 31st minute through a spot kick. Following a floater from Agio Antao, striker Ronnie Monteiro headed superbly but a rival defender tripped him from behind and the referee, without hesitation, pointed to the dreaded spot. Bersel Viegas made no mistake with the resultant spot kick.
The goal shook up Carmona whose forwards pressed for the equalizer and their efforts bore fruit in
the 41st minute when striker Jorax Fernandes’ free kick eluded Areal goalkeeper Francisco Baretto.
Crossing over, the teams tried to break the deadlock but the match-winner eluded them as the rival defenders stood tall.
In a U-16 match at Sangolda ground, Clube Athletico de Parra thrashed Guirim Youth and Cultural Sports Club 11-0. Ronald Martins (5), Ronaldo Oliveira (2), Prakash Rathore (2), Francis Rodrigues scored for Parra.
UC Nerul and PVC Association Parra drew 1-1 at Verem ground.
