The process for selecting the final 30 films for the Short Film Centre (SFC), a business platform for shorts and documentary films and official section of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) began today and would be completed by October 14, the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) official said here today.
The seven-member committee, who will finalise the 30 films in include last year’s winner and actress Geethu Mohandas, filmmaker Anwar Jamal, Sharda Ramnathan, Rekha Deshpande- film critic, Nandini Sardesai – member of Censor board, Pundalik Naik and Malti Sahai – DFF nominee on the committee.
Addressing a press conference here, ESG CEO Manoj Srivastava disclosed that the members have started screening the movies and will select the final 30 movies by October 14.
“There are so far 300 entries so far and we are expecting 50 more as October 10 is the last date,” he said.
The CEO said that 20 films would be selected for International competition which carries a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh, Rs 3 lakh and rs 2 lakhs for the first three winners respectively while 10 films would be selected for Vasudha award, which has a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh.
Srivastava also said that there were 10 entries were Goa itself.
The SFC will start on November 23 at the IFFI venue here and end on December 1, penultimate day of the IFFI 2010.
In the first two consecutive years, the SFC received 300 entries each, and with publicity for the event having increased, more entries were expected this year, the official said.
The SFC award-winning films have been appreciated at various prestigious festivals.
For instance, last year’s Golden Lamp Tree Award winner Kelkkunnundo (Are you Listening?) by Geethu Mohandas bagged the Special Jury Award at the 57th National Film Awards recently.
The international platform provided by the ESG for makers of shorts and documentaries has been gaining impetus with an increase in the number of entries received by the SFC, he said.
