A solemn Eucharistic Celebration marked the feast of the Presentation of the Lord with the participation of the parishioners at Immaculate Conception Church, Panjim, on February 2, 2022.
At the outset of the Mass, the candles were blessed to commemorate the entrance of the child Jesus on the fortieth day after his birth for the first time in the temple where Simeon received him in his arms and proclaimed him as a light for all the peoples. The feast of the Presentation is also known as Candle mass Day. For this purpose, candles are blessed and kept reverently on the family altar.
In his homily, Fr. Walter de Sa reflected on the fact that God who shared our flesh and blood, came to encounter, and to establish a covenant with, humanity. On our part, we too must encounter the God of life every day in all the situations of our existence.
He also emphasised on Mary’s self-sacrifice by offering Jesus for our sake on the cross.
Further, he recalled that the Day of Consecrated Life is also celebrated on the feast day of the Presentation, and appealed to the participants to pray for priests, religious sisters and consecrated lay women for their missionary apostolate among the marginalised and the downtrodden.
