PONDA: A pedestrian from Pansulem, Tisk-Usgao, and a two-wheeler rider from Maharashtra died in separate road accidents at Pansulem-Tisk and Kundaim.
According to reports, Mohiddin Khaza (40) was walking along the road at Pansulem-Tisk, Usgao, at about 9.30 pm on Tuesday when a two wheeler knocked him down.
Tension prevailed at Usgao for about two hours when the agitated residents gathered to protest against non-availability of ambulance service to shift Mohiddin to nearby hospital at Usgao.
The locals claimed that Mohiddin was seriously injured and was at the accident site for about one hour, but he could not be shifted to nearby Usgao Health Centre for medical treatment due to non-availability of ambulance service at the hospital.
The locals did not allow the police to conduct Panchanama. The agitators later marched to Usgao Health Centre to protest. Ponda police and hospital authorities tried to pacify the villagers. However, the crowd later allowed to shift the body to Usgao Hospital.
In another accident, two-wheeler rider Chandrawar Sontakke (33) from Maharashtra, but residing at Corlim, died in an accident at Kundaim-Marcaim bypass road at about 3 am on Wednesday.
According to Ponda police, the deceased was proceeding from Marcaim towards Corlim when he lost control of the two-wheeler after he saw a wild boar crossing the road at Kundaim.
Police said Sontakke dashed the wild boar and he along with the motorcycle fell on the road, resulting into his death on the spot. Ponda police conducted the panchnama and is investigating the case.
