PANJIM: The academic year 2021-22 could be delayed by a week or two as the current term has been prolonged in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. The ongoing term is being extended by eight days and will end on May 8.
Annually, the academic term for the students of Classes I to IX and XI ends by April 30 with the declaration of the results. However, this year, to ensure that there is no academic loss to students, Directorate of Education (DoE) allowed schools to declare the final examination result on or after May 8.

When contacted, Education Director Santosh Amonkar said that the department is yet to hold a meeting to finalise the academic calendar. “The academic schedule for 2021-22 has not been finalised and hence, it won’t be appropriate to comment,” he said.
However, sources said that the new academic term might begin a little late on account of a delay to the end of the current term. Also, sources said that the Board examinations will conclude by May 31.
“The new term may start only after June 15,” sources said. Annually, the new academic year starts from the first Monday of June. This year, it would have been June 7.
Physical classes for students of Std I to IX and Std XI have been discontinued due to the COVID pandemic since mid March last year. However, regular classes for X and XII
re-opened partially from November 21, 2020.
DoE had earlier directed schools to hold the final examination for Classes I to IX and XI in the last week of April and to prepare the academic result by the first week of May.
Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE), will conduct the Board exams for the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) from April 26 to May 15, while the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exams, are scheduled between, May 13 to May 31.
