VASCO: On February 23, 2017, Herald first highlighted about illegal shanties located right under the flight path posing high risk of bird hits and other security threats to aircraft at Dabolim Airport.
Following Herald expose, the South District administration removed illegal shanties within 24 hours. Surprisingly within eight days, shanties sprung up again and at same site.
Taking serious cognizance of the another report by Herald on illegal shanties, the South district administration again initiated action against illegal shanties following which these migrants started playing hide-and-seek with authorities and later disappeared from the site only to return again.
This time these migrants have erected their shanties illegally just few metres away from the old site. However, the risk of bird hits and other security threats to aircraft at Dabolim Airport still continues with concerned authorities displaying a casual attitude towards the safety of flights by not acting against these illegal shanties.
