MARGAO: Deputy Chief Minister, Francis D’Souza, who also holds the Law portfolio, took a dig at the Congress for not honouring the promise of legalising dhirios, but was silent on the question of legalising the banned bull fights.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, who had promised bull fight lovers from Salcete to work out a solution to the issue on the eve of the 2004 Lok Sabha poll during his Salcete mission, sounded ambiguous in legalising dhirios.
Both the Chief Minister and his deputy were in the Gorvotti area of Nuvem village to address a public meeting of BJP candidate organised by the Nuvem MLA. In a bid to woo the dhirio lovers towards the BJP, Parrikar merely promised a solution to the banned sport, without specifying what’s in his mind to legalise the dhirios. “We need to protect our tradition. I want to give a word that my government will work out a solution”, he added.
While the deputy Chief Minister took a dig at the Congress for fooling the dhirio lovers for the last one decade, he, however, was silent on how his government intends to legalise the banned bull fights.
