Traffic cop knocked down at Navelim
MARGAO: In a hit and run case, a traffic constable was knocked down by a speeding Dio scooter at Colmorodo-Navelim on Saturday noon. A bleeding constable Appa Satpalkar was rushed to the Hospicio with injuries on his face. Margao Traffic cell in-charge, PI Shirwaikar said the police constable had ordered the rider to stop, but was knocked down in the process. Margo PI Sudesh Naik said a case of hit and run stands registered against the unknown rider. He exuded confidence of tracing the rider with the help of the vehicle registration number. Police are investigating.
Hubli driver found dead at Mollem
COLLEM: A 60-year-old truck driver from Hubli (Karnataka) was found dead in the truck at Mollem on Saturday. According to Collem police, the driver, Kedar Basha Mulla from Hubli, had carried goods from Karnataka by his truck (KA-25 B 6485) and had unloaded them at Amona on October 25. He later proceeded towards Karnataka later Friday night. When he reached Mollem, he parked his truck by the roadside and had a light dinner at a nearby hotel, before going to sleep at the cabin of the truck. He was found lifeless in the cabin and the Collem police was alerted of the incident. A police team summoned a 108 ambulance to the site and 108 attendants confirmed that Mulla was dead. Collem police sent the body for an autopsy and PI Jivaba Dalvi is investigating the case.
Mapusa man accuses girl of blackmail
PANJIM: A Mapusa resident has accused a girl and her male friend of harassing and threatening him. In his complaint filed last week, Vishwas Kerkar said the girl, who has filed a complaint of molestation against him, and her friend Reis D’Costa have been filing false complaints against him. “The girl and Reis have been threatening me and have also sent a word with our common friend saying that he and my other friends should me otherwise they will also have to suffer along with me…the girl has been threatening me saying she will ruin my future and will bring me on the road. So also Reis has threatened me saying that he will finish my life and see that I beg on the street,” the complaint letter reads. The Mapusa police said they are inquiring into the complaint as there is a recent complaint filed by the girl accusing Kerkar of stalking her.
TIVIM: Mapusa Police has registered a case against a man from Colvale on charges of posing as a CBI officer and threatening his neighbour. According to police reports, the accused had made an anonymous call posing as a CBI officer and had allegedly threatened a neighbour on August 18. After verifying the call details, Mapusa police on Saturday registered an offence under Section 507 IPC (criminal intimidation) by an anonymous communication and issued a notice under section 149 CRPC, prevention of congnizable offence.
Panjim local files duping complaint
PANJIM: Khwaja Mayoddin H K has complained to the Panjim police on Saturday that one Subhan Ali duped him of Rs 3.80 lakh on the pretext of investing the amount in business. Mayoddin has alleged that Ali, a Chimbel resident borrowed the amount on two different occasions ~ February 22, and April 4, this year, with a promise to return it within three months. “The complainant reminded him repeatedly to return the amount but in vain,” said a police officer. Thereafter Mayoddin lodged a criminal complaint against the person. Police have registered a case under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code for cheating and are investigating.
House in Curtorim burgled
MARGAO: Burglars continue to make merry in the jurisdiction of Maina Curtorim police station. A resident of Davorlim has complained to the Maina Curtorim police that unknown culprits barged inside his house and decamped with gold ornaments from his house worth around Rs 1.40 lakh. The police have registered a case of theft against unknown persons.
Colva police register trespass case
MARGAO: Colva police has registered a case of trespass following a complaint from the owner that the flat was given on rent to two foreigners by a builder. Colva PI Uttam Raut Desai said the police have registered the case after the owner complained that the builder had given the flat to two foreigners without her consent. The police are investigating.
