CALANGUTE: Guirim Youth and Cultural Club prevailed over Vagator Parish Youth Sports Club 5-4 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of All-Goa Lakhanpal Novino inter-village football tournament organized by Candolim Sports Club at Dr Gustavo Monteiro ground, Candolim, Tuesday. The teams were locked 1-1 at full time.

Guirim began on a promising note and could have taken the lead in the fifth minute but Shubam Naik’s effort sailed inches over the crossbar.  At the other end, five minutes later, Vagator created their first threat but Alexinho Dias’ shot missed the mark narrowly.

Subsequently, Sachin Chopdekar put Guirim ahead in the 25th minute off a clever pass by Sadanand.

Stung by the set-back, Vagator regrouped in search of the equalizer as Abhijeet’s shot was well blocked at goalline by Guirim’s Govind Balekar.
