NEW DELHI: The prospects of early resumption of mining operations before the monsoon are very bleak with the Goa mining case now being listed before the Supreme Court on May 10, the last day before it goes into a 7-week Summer vacation.
The Apex Court will then re-assemble only on July 1.

Justice Aftab Alam, who heads the Bench that stayed all mining activities in the State on October 5, is retiring on April 18 and as such the case arising out of a public interest litigation by Goa Foundation will now come up before the new Forest Bench to be constituted by the Chief Justice.
There is no likelihood of any order in the case since it is coming up on Friday, a day for fresh cases. In any case, the mining season will be over by then due to the coming monsoon and as such Goa, which contributed 40 per cent of the iron ore export from India, will have a no-mining year, probably for the first time in its history.
