MARGAO: The feast of St Francis Xavier was celebrated with solemnity at the South Goa District Police Headquarters, Margao.
Grace Church Parish Priest Fr Joe Rodrigues was the main celebrant along with other concelebrants – Fr Lawrence Fernandes, Fr Vency Fernandes, Fr Noel Menezes and Fr Patrick Lakra.
In his homily, Fr Joe said as police personnel watch over the society, all Christians have a responsibility to be a guardian to their neighbours and in being watchful they fulfil the true mission of Christ as was done by St Francis Xavier.
In his introduction he pointed out that Goan wherever they are always venerate and adore St Francis Xavier because his devotion is ingrained in all Goans and that is why he is known as “Goencho Saib”.
During offertory besides the bread and wine, a bible, police uniform, fruits and flowers were offered. A brass band comprising first trumpet, alto saxophone, brass and snair drums was in attendance.
Later in the evening at 8 pm a litany was sung at the new St Francis Xavier Chapel at Maddel, which was shifted to the new premises on November 23.
