Says its a relief from his sufferings of 34 years

PANJIM: The fire brand politician of yesteryears, Dayanand Narvekar Saturday severed his ties with the Congress party and tendered his resignation after at least 34 years with the party.
According to reports, Narvekar who was swept away with the anti-Congress wave in the last assembly elections lost to BJP new face Glenn Ticlo said that this was a relief from his ‘sufferings of 34 years.’
Congress reacted to the resignation of the politician who had in many ways said that it was ‘unfortunate.’
“It is very unfortunate that he has chosen to go away from the Congress. Not enough was done by the party for him. It is a sad move. In 34 years he has given to the Congress as much as Congress has given to him,” party spokesman Jitendra Deshprabhu said, calling his resignation a great surprise, adding that he has been his colleague for the past 34 years and has held various posts in the party.
Dayanand Narverkar played a crucial role in bringing the Congress to power and toppling the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party government of chief minister Shashikala Kakodkar, which was rocked by allegations of corruption, by voting with the Opposition Congress along with Dilkush Desai, Shankar Laad, with the then Speaker Narayan Fugro who used his casting vote, after a series of ties, when there was voting on the demand for grants.
