CANACONA: Governor B V Wanchoo skipped the New Year Carnival event at Lalit Hotel in Canacona, as a mark of respect to brutal gang rape/murder of Delhi girl.
Governor Wanchoo was scheduled to flag-off the Lalit’s carnival ‘Ano-Novo’ from its hotel Porsche.
It is learnt that government of India had advised the head of the states and other high-profile dignitaries from attending or taking part in any form of New Year’s revelry as a mark of respect to the girl.
A source from the Lalit Suri Hospitality Group organizing the ‘Lalit Festival of Canacona’ confirmed the development and informed that Governor will not arrive in Canacona on Tuesday.
Industries Minister Mahadev Naik flagged off the Lalit’s carnival floats ‘Ano-Novo’ at the Rajbag hotel Porsche.
The carnival parade with as many as 37 groups participating commenced at The Lalit Golf & Spa Resorts, Rajbag, hotel porsche and the different floats wended its way through Ponsulem, Chaudi town, Char-Rasta and Palolem and culminated with celebrations at Palolem beach.
