PANJIM: The Directorate of Education (DoE) has invited applications from the needy retired teachers and their dependents to avail the benefit of financial assistance under the National Foundation for Teachers Welfare Scheme.
Under the scheme, the benefit of financial assistance is provided to retired teachers with pension, without pension and their dependents. The Central government scheme is being implemented through a State Working Committee headed by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is also the Minister for Education.

In a circular issued, Director Education Santosh Amonkar said that the government has decided to give priority to the retired teachers, who are seriously suffering from chronic life threatening diseases.
“Also, priority given to teachers who have permanent disability such as loss of limb, eyesight and hearing impaired,” he added.
The committee, case by case, will decide the quantum of financial assistance, keeping in mind the availability of medical, reimbursement or insurance cover.
The assistance will be provided for a period of 10 years, to only those teachers or dependents, whose family income does not exceed Rs 2 lakh per annum.
The benefit is available for teachers having at least 15 years meritorious service.
The heads of the educational institutions are directed to bring the circular to the notice of the needy teachers.
