PWD has been directed to show cause within seven days failing which legal action would be initiated under provision of Water Act without any further notice.
During their inspection Board members observed that the STP is operated without a valid consent from them as required under the Water (prevention and control of pollution) Act 1974. Hence a show cause notice under section 33(A) was issued to the Principal Chief Engineer, PWD asking “as to why action under the Water Act that includes criminal prosecution under section 44, 45(A) and 48 of the Water (Prevention and Control) Act, 1974, should not be initiated against you for operating the STP at Patto, Panjim in a manner that is causing environmental and water pollution in the vicinity and for violating the provision of section 23 o f the Water Act”.
