VASCO (HR):?A fire at Dabolim airport was averted largely due to a well-equipped fire fighting system and timely action by staff on duty at the restaurant in the terminal building of the airport on Tuesday morning.
Panic gripped restaurant staff when they noticed smoke from the storeroom of a restaurant located on the first floor of the terminal building.
However, the well-equipped fire fighting system and timely action by restaurant staff averted fire, as the staff swung into action and doused off the smoke, which was caused due to overheating of electrical distribution box in the storeroom.
Vasco fire station personnel said due to short circuit in the electrical distribution box, the storeroom was filled with smoke. “It is suspected that this was caused due to haphazard storage of materials in the storeroom,” said the fire personnel.
“The restaurant staff has assessed the damage at about Rs 15,000,” added fire brigade official.
Since the restaurant is equipped with smoke detectors and other fire fighting equipment, the staff immediately brought the smoke under control before fire brigade could arrive at the site.
