The pending claims of farmers who suffered agricultural losses due to unseasonal rains in 2008 will be cleared by June 30, 2010, Minister for Revenue Jose Philip D’Souza informed the House during Question Hour on Tuesday while replying to a question posed by Mandrem MLA Laxmikant Parsekar.
Raising the issue of delay caused in settling claims of farmers who lost their crops due to unseasonal rains two years ago, he questioned the Government for how long the farmers will have to wait to get compensation.
He said, the issue was raised twice in the House and the government had assured to settle their claims at the earliest. However, the authorities are still in the process of conducting assessment.
He said, in most cases proposals received by the mamlatdar are under process. In North Goa, Tiswadi, 181 cases are pending settlement, Ponda 35, Pernem 2056, Bicholim 960, Sattari 1577 whereas there are 618 claims received from farmers in Quepem taluka in South Goa, where assessment has to be completed, referring to written reply and demanded to know the date by which farmers would get compensation.
The Revenue Minister assured the House that process will be completed by June end as Mandrem MLA demanded the date by which claims of would be cleared.
