PANJIM: Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar on Saturday said that he has stopped medication after switching to physiotherapy and that Goa would be promoted as a destination for aquatic physiotherapy.
“I have stopped taking medicines after starting physiotherapy treatment. The Tourism Department will promote Goa as a destination for Aquatic Physiotherapy and efforts will be made to promote this special treatment as tourists visit Goa for wellness tourism,” Azgaonkar said after inaugurating the first international Aquatic Conference AquaCon 2017 at Calangute on Saturday.
The conference, organised by Dr Ketan Bhatikar’s Sparc Physiotherapy Centre, also saw the presence of Town & County Planning Minister Vijai Sardesai.
In a bid to boost sports, Azgaonkar assured to get physiotherapists in every single game under the Sports Department to keep players fit. He emphasised on the need to extend physiotherapy treatment to special children who can benefit from the aquatic treatment without medication.
Sardesai said he will get an independent council for physios and take physiotherapists forward.
The conference is being attended by Dean of KLE Hospital Dr Sanjiv Kumar, KIMS Hospital Physiotherapy Dean Dr Varadraju, Board of Studies Chairman Dr Nanamala, ESI Chairaman Dr Suresh Reddy, Dr Einstein Jerome and others.
Bhatikar said, “Water has special properties which are key for treating special children and this is the awareness that we are creating and promoting through this conference.” Around 120 delegates are participating in the two-day conference.
