PONDA: At the gram sabha of the Verem Vagurme panchayat held on Sunday, the villagers demanded that the panchayat’s funds lying unutilised funds be used for development work.
The villagers suggested that the panchayat fund be diverted and used to repair the crematorium at the village, which, according to locals, is lacking basic facilities. The gram sabha attendees pointed out the inconvenience caused to the bereaved families using the services of the crematorium due erratic supply of electricity, frequent water scarcity and inadequate storage facility for wood.

The locals also demanded that the panchayat maintain the village by cutting the overgrown shrubbery and weeds lining the village roads, and also called for the repair of non-functional streetlights at some places.
Highlighting the issue of scarcity of drinking water in some parts of the village, locals requested the Panchayat to arrange for a water tanker to supply water to the affected families of Ghano, Savoi, at least two days a week.
